Theme Song!! (and more)
Thanks for all the comments since last Friday's posting. As promised, a response has been posted for each one - no matter how inane. If you click on the "View Comments" link at the bottom of any of the postings, it will display all the comments and corresponding responses for that posting. If the volume of comments keeps up, we may have to go to a once or twice a month "reader mailbag" posting, in which the SportDork attempts to respond to reader questions and comments. Let me know what you think.
Here it is - the mildly anticipated, not-very-long awaited SportDork theme song!!! Special thanks go out to Andrew for suggesting this one - well done.

SIX DEGREES OF JULES
My sister, Julia, has directly - and indirectly - provided some great material over the last week. First, she had her first child - a girl - last week. Very exciting moment. When the big day arrived, Shannon and I got the following e-mail - from Jules:
8/6/07 - 9:00 AM
Subject: yo peeps - water broke! going to the hospital soon ....
So my sister grabs her laptop and is firing out e-mails AFTER her water breaks? Nice work, Jules. You have officially achieved legendary status.
Also, before Shannon and I left for England, Jules suggested that we set up one of her friends with one of my friends/co-workers. Jules, Shannon and I were able to convince both parties, who shall remain nameless, that it was a good idea and that they might hit it off. Contact information was swapped, and last week my co-worker sent an e-mail to Jules' friend to introduce himself. With his permission, here it is (Note: He is NOT a stamp collector, and I have no idea if she is.)
Dear Ms. XXXXX:
I am a friend and co-worker of Alex, whom I believe you know through his sister, Jules. I was given your contact information by Alex, with the understanding that you approved of my contacting you.
Alex also told me that he thinks you might like stamp collecting. That is awesome! I am a huge fan, and I have a pretty sizable collection (4.5 SuperPro Albums - value appr. $40K). I have several Penny Black stamps from the 1840s. My other passion is getting involved with the history makers...the real heroes. I have autographed Eagle stamps for the past 9 Postmaster generals. I have also traveled to 18 postmaster artist conferences - usually in the Dakotas or Iowa, so I pretty much spend all my vacations traveling in the Midwest - trying to stay on top of action!
Anyway, dating is pretty tough for me. Rarely does anyone ever want to look at my collections, and some people try to avoid even talking about it. You can imagine how stoked I was when I found out that you were a fellow philatelist!
Anyway, I need to line up a date for the upcoming conference in Fargo, so I thought we could get together for coffee and I could show you a few of my prized Penny Blacks. But before we get too deep into this, I was hoping you could please respond with some details regarding your collection (value, album types, condition, etc.) I know that is intrusive - but we have to be honest here! Give me a high-level rundown and let's see if we can move forward.
Best regards,
XXXXXX
Apologies to any of you who may be avid stamp collectors, but this has got to be the best blind date introduction e-mail ever. The only thing that could make it any better is if he finds out that she actually IS a stamp collector.

Beat, no quicktime at work.

Are the SportDork readers to believe that the Jealous Workaholic is trying to engage in non work-related activities while at work? You're the Jealous Workaholic! You don't have time for QuickTime - that's for the weak and unproductive!!

SD--Not relevant to your nice (and appropriate theme song), but fyi-i thought you and the SD community may be interested in a new website I saw on gatorzone.com. It is www.coachurbanmeyer.com. Pretty neat actually--has a countdown till the next game. I had not seen this before. Enjoy.

While not relevant to the theme song per se (I haven't been able to work in a "per se" in a long time, so I jumped at the opportunity), the information you have provided is very relevant to the SportDork Nation. He just launched this site in the last couple of weeks. I understand it was a response to the NCAA's text-messaging ban. It launched about the same day that the ban went into effect. Apparently he is looking at it as another way to communicate with recruits. A number of other coaches have sites up as well. I guess they'll all have one in the near future.
It is really snazzy (another word I haven't worked in in a while). Great graphics. I highly recommend it to all gator fans. I couldn't stay on the site very long because I started to get too excited about the season starting. I actually do everything I can to avoid all pre-season hype - gets me too wound up and then I'm just bitter the season hasn't started yet.
Go gators.

I hope to catch up with the author shortly and get everyone up to speed on any recent developments. Thanks for being my eyes on the ground - is that the right expression? Person on the ground? Ears to the floor?
Get out of my recliner.
