Blame It On The Chicken Wings
A combination of factors has forced me to push back publication of this week's entry to Friday at 9 am.
First, my plans to finish crafting this week's entry while on the plane back to the UK yesterday were foiled when our return date was pushed back to next weekend. Instead of having eight hours on a plane to finish putting together another scintillating entry for the SportDork Nation, I had eight hours available to eat a "few more" chicken wings and watch countless hours of pre-game, in-game and post-game Monday Night Football. Obviously, I had no choice in the matter.
Second, the 2007 SportDork Family Holiday Letter is currently in production, and now that we are here in the U.S. for a few more days, I am working feverishly to get it mailed out before we go back to the UK so The SportDorks don't have to spring for international postage on a hundred holiday letters. Speaking of the holiday letter, if you did not receive it last year and you'd like to receive a copy this year, send me your mailing address through the "comments" link at the bottom of this entry and I'll be sure to add you to the mailing list.
So, Friday at 9 am it is. Sorry to disappoint, but the fact is that I need a few more days to complete my 26,000 word diatribe on the BCS, compose a tribute to fallen American icon Evel Knievel, and find a picture of Wes Welker's mustache. I wonder if I can find a picture of Evel Knievel with a mustache? That would tie in nicely.
Comments (and there are a bunch) will be posted by Friday as well.
Off to the Waffle House!! I mean, Kinko's!!!

I am looking at the delay of your entry as an early Christmas present. Thank you for your kindness.

Does that mean that you don't want me to mail you a holiday letter?

My 2 cents: 8 team playoff - 6 automatic bids to the 6 major conference winners (as determined by each conference) and two at-large bids for the remaining conferences/the Irish to be determined by polls.

Sounds good to me. As you can tell from this week's entry, I'm not a big fan of sending teams who didn't even PLAY in their conference championship game to a BCS Bowl, so why should they make it into a playoff? Your proposal would also continue to put a premium on winning your conference title game and wouldn't diminish the importance of regular season games, which is always the complaint about a playoff.
Nice work.

Hi! I am behind on my SD reading. I did get the Christmas letter last year, and I think Mrs. SportDork has my new address, but I'll provide. Also, you can e-mail the letter instead of mailing internationally since I'm getting my request so late!!
Thanks!
Jen

I realized that I could erase your mailing address and take off your last name, and then post your comment! I hope you don't mind. I just wanted other readers to know that they could come forward and request a copy of the Holiday Letter without fear. Thanks for being so brave.
Your letter has been mailed. No worries on the international postage. We spare no expense on the Holiday Letter. We'll just send our first-born to public school.
