A Long Walk To Somewhere

Life is about balance.  That's why for every ridiculous and depressing story about a bunch of Congressmen convening to try and determine whether a professional athlete took steroids, there's another story that re-affirms your faith in the American people.  In this case, it's George Martin, former defensive end for the N.Y. Giants, who spent his entire fourteen year career (1975 - 1988) in New York.  Here's a picture of George:

George is walking across America - over 3,000 miles -  in an attempt to raise $10 million for the first responders to the 9/11 attacks who are now suffering from medical problems from their exposure to all the crap that was in the air that day.  He started on the George Washington Bridge in New York on September 16, 2007 and plans to finish in March on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Here's a link to his website:  http://www.ajourneyfor911.info/
You can donate to the cause on the website.  You can even track George's daily progress if you're having a really slow day at work.

I was going to end today's entry right there, but I can't bring myself to end on such a high note.  Instead, allow me to ruin any positive vibe you may have developed by thinking about George Martin walking across America.  Here's a follow up to last Friday's entry about the Clemens congressional hearing!  More critical information has surfaced regarding the completely irrelevant Jose Canseco party that Clemens may or may not have attended.  According to the deposition testimony of Brian McNamee, Debbie Clemens and Jose's wife showed each other their breast augmentations at the Canseco party.  No information was provided in McNamee's deposition about whose surgery was deemed more impressive.  I'll let you judge for yourself:

Debbie Clemens was on steroids?  Impossible!

ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE:     It's been a while, so I thought it was about time for a subscription reminder.  Subscribing to SportDork.com means that each time an entry is published, the entry will be sent to your e-mail address.  Subscribing eliminates the need to go to the website in order to read an entry, since the entry is sent directly to your e-mail address.  I mention this because a number of people have told me how much they have enjoyed the convenience of being a subscriber - and the fact that they can read each entry from their blackberry while sitting in meetings during work.  There is no fee to subscribe, and no one has reported receiving spam e-mails as a result of subscribing.  As far as I can tell, it is simply a convenient feature offered by the hosting company.  If you would like to subscribe, just enter your e-mail address in the box on the left hand side of the website under the word "subscribe," and then click the orange "subscribe" button.  You should then begin receiving entries via e-mail.
