You've Got Mail
Wednesday is now officially the new Tuesday! Thank you for bearing with me and adjusting to the new sporadic publication schedule. Since the inception of SportDork.com last year, loyal readers have sent in pictures, articles and other items of interest, and I thought it was about time to feature a few reader contributions. After all, it's all about you guys, right? (or is it about the children? I can't remember.) So, today's entry includes a variety of amusing tidbits for The SportDork Nation. First, here's a link that was sent in - it's a great article by a guy who shares The SportDork's fascination with a particular form of facial hair on professional athletes:
Next, I'd like to share a recent story from the Gainesville Sun that was sent in by another avid reader. It seems the Sun recently asked readers to participate in a survey that asked them the following question:
What Worries You Most?
The readers were given five answers to choose from. Here are the choices, along with the number of people who selected each answer:
a) Rising gas prices: 406
b) Rising food prices: 145
c) Rising unemployment: 110
d) Global warming; 82
e) The Gators' difficult schedule; 88

Finally, this weekend at the SportDorks' annual Fourth of July party, one of my readers requested that I dazzle The SportDork Nation with some swimming commentary. I reminded her that last week's entry featured a picture of Gator swimmer Ryan Lochte pushing Michael Phelps to the brink of defeat, but she said she wanted more. So, in my continuing effort to satisfy one reader at a time, and because there was a day years ago when I swam competitively, giving me an appreciation for the passion that swimmers hold for their sport, I decided another "swimming spectacular" (or at least a couple more gratuitous swimming pictures) was in order.
When you're a forty-one year old female swimmer and you successfully qualify for the Olympics, you deserve to have your picture on SportDork.com. Say hello to Dara Torres:

I was afraid I was going to have to email and coach you on this week's entry. I wasn't sure if you were still cranky about losing to your sister and me in a heated game of horseshoes. After that event I began having nightmares that the Nathan's Hot Dog Contest Winner would be splashed across the pages of SportDork.com. I suppose there's always next week for that.
Thanks for giving my former competitive and year round sport some quality kudos. Deep down I knew you'd come through and recognize Ms. Torres but I was surprised to see you left out Amanda Beard?
I'll look forward to your swimming commentary when the games officially start...
